Saturday, September 22, 2018 to Sunday, September 23, 2018 Start time: 2:15 pm
Venue: National Maritime Museum, Greenwich
To celebrate the opening of the new Arctic galleries at the National Maritime Museum, Sámi musician Torgeir Vassvik, from the Norwegian Arctic. Torgeir was last seen at ORIGINS 2015, and will be performing on the World Map as part of the opening weekend programme.
Known for his endlessly inventive blend of ancient Sámi folk music, sounds from nature and a wide range of instruments, Vassvik employs the traditional Sámi practice of the joik, a form of long, slow, chant-style song formed deep in the throat, intended to act as an aural representation of an individual person, landscape or animal – a sort of portrait in sound.
