Totem Latamat - Return to Earth Ceremony

Saturday, November 20, 2021 Start time: 11:00 am

Venue: The Crichton, Dumfries

Join us to celebrate the end of TOTEM LATAMAT'S journey across the country.

After travelling over 9000km from Mexico to the UK by sea and land, the totem will finally arrive at The Crichton Estate where it will be ceremonially returned to earth on 20 November, emphasising the cyclical and transient nature of life and art.  Through this ceremony, held in the aftermath of its presence at Cop26, TOTEM LATAMAT will invite reflection on the connections between communities, facing challenges and processes that cross boundaries, defy politics and affect everyone and everything: human and non-human alike.

The ceremony, led by ecologist, educator and celebrant Gordon MacLellan, will begin the The Crichton's de-consecrated Memorial Church, before processing to TOTEM LATAMAT itself.  Music, poetry and song will be at the centre of this event, as they have been throughout the extraordinary journey of TOTEM LATAMAT.

This event is free and open to all.
