A special online screening of REMEMBRANCES to coincide with the opening of the 2022 Commonwealth games in Birmingham. Originally performed outside in Birmingham as part of Birmingham 2022 and Birmingham International Dance Festival.
As Birmingham prepares to host the Commonwealth Games, REMEMBRANCES asks how best to welcome Indigenous people as visitors to the city, the country and the land. In the time of #BlackLivesMatter, and in the face of colonial injustices, how can we offer a genuine space of welcome to First Nations people from Commonwealth countries?
Exploring a challenging shared history, the land on which we meet and the possibility of sharing ceremony; REMEMBRANCES is a unique collaboration between contemporary theatre-makers, dance artists and poets from the Midlands and First Nations Canada.
Border Crossings is an intercultural theatre company, and has produced the ORIGINS Festival since 2009, offering a space for Indigenous people to share their cultures in Britain.
AVA DANCE COMPANY creates high-quality contemporary dance works, with a cast of female dancers and collaborators from a range of cultures and artistic disciplines.
b.solomon//ELECTRIC MOOSE is a First Nations contemporary dance artist of Anishinaabe and Irish heritage, from Ontario Canada.
Matthew James Weigel is an award winning Dënësųłinë́ &Métis writer creating in Edmonton, Alberta Canada.
